800 Degrees is this west-coast based pizzeria that posts a half-priced pizza of the day on their Instagram every day. I’ve had more than my fair share of half-off pizza combinations and my favorite by far is their Bianca with pesto and thinly sliced ham. I was craving it the other day, but of course it wasn’t half off. So we tried to replicate the flavors in a pita! Alan has a ton of pitas for packing lunch and we had all the right ingredients laying around the apartment already. It wasn’t perfect but i still ate my way through two of them!
- Pita bread
- Shredded cheeses
- Crushed red peppers
- Lemon and Mayonnaise for aioli
Really all you have to do is stuff your pitas with whatever sauces, meat and cheeses you’d like. Then brush them lightly with oil on both sides and then pop them in the oven for 10 minutes at 450 degrees, turning them over after 5 minutes.
What really makes it is whatever sauces you put inside. I minced a ton of garlic and mixed it with pesto over low heat on the stove since I’m not a huge tomato sauce fan. I used the leftover oil to brush the pitas with. Alan made garlic aioli with the lemon, mayo and minced garlic for some and used horseradish and arugula for others.
We made about 8 halves total all with different cheeses and sauces! The pita bread ends up super crispy and toasted in the oven and the cheeses melt all over the place. It was a wonderful mess. Happy eating!
