Apartment Inspo

So this is entirely un-bookish, but this blog hasn’t always been a purely book blog and it’ll probably continue on that way. I hope you don’t mind the occasional life and other things post. Don’t worry, there are still plenty of book posts in the pipeline. Anyways, I’ve always wanted my own place to have a clear sense of style and design. That’s really hard to do when you’re always sharing your space with other people, whether that’s family or roommates or whoever.

So now that I’ve officially got a place just for me and the bae (and soon, a kitty or two), I’ve been slowly accumulating furniture and decorations for our little home. I think my original ideas were slightly different, but taking all of my boyfriend’s tastes and things into account, I ended up deciding on more of an industrial style with lots of blues, oranges, and metal tones laid over a white, black and grey foundation. Everything is still very much so in progress, so no pics of the space yet! But here are some of my picks from my Pinterest board, so you can get a sense of what I have in mind for my new place. I’ll be posting updates of my various rooms as we furnish them!

I loved the idea of black mismatched chairs and a wooden table, but ultimately, getting a complete dining set was a lot more budget friendly for us. So we picked one that fit as closely as possible, but it was definitely a compromise on something that I had previously been pretty decided on.

This is a pretty wide range of colors, but I think it’s a strong guide for what we’re aiming for throughout the whole apartment. The kitchen is a little bit more ash-wood heavy with golds and greens. The living room is a lot of black, deep blues with more orange and gold highlights. The bedroom as it stands is very white and gray with hints of a deep brown and some rich blues.

We’ve made a lot of slow progress so far! Our main furniture pieces came in recently and I finally got around to assembling them while I was home sick over the weekend. Can’t wait to share more pics in a few weeks!

Also, there’s just a couple more weeks left for my A Darker Shade of Magic Giveaway! Don’t forget to sign up! 🙂

Bits & Pieces Week 3

I’m so very behind on blog posts, I almost don’t even know where to begin. I guess for starters, I moved to WordPress! I’ll be posting both on WordPress and Tumblr, you can follow where you like. Other than that, there’s been some pretty big life changes in the past couple of weeks.

  • I graduated! B.S.? Check! Now I just have to pick up that diploma…
  • Remember that perfect apartment I was talking about here? Well, we got it! We’ve been moved in for about a month now. Thanks everyone who kept their fingers crossed for us.
  • Started a new job working as a front-end web developer! Two-days in and I am loving it.
  • I started a succulent and herb garden up on the new sun deck and I can’t wait to share updates on that soon.
  • Also a lot of belated posts coming soon on food and that Norcal trip I mentioned here. Bear with me.
  • I have been obsessed with cute shoes lately. Like these ones above, which I picked up for only $15! And yes, I know. I need a pedicure.

College was an incredible four-year experience, but to be honest? I’m pretty okay with where I’m at right now.So many other things I want to share – thoughts on jobs/work, the books/games I’ve picked up lately, recipes, food adventures, grad photos, etc. But all in due time.

Life is Short, Eat Dessert

Apartment hunting is hard-work. There’s a stress that comes with trying to find the perfect place that fits your budget, is in the right location and has everything you need. When you’re still in school, it’s easier to settle. In my head, I was always asking if I could put up this or that for just nine months. If the answer was yes, then the apartment was a go. Now though, I have to think long-term and a lot of little things that normally wouldn’t be a problem add up to a deal-breaker. That being said, I’m thankful to have a wonderful future roommate who is looking for all the same things.

We’ve spent the last couple of weekends visiting apartments and it always ends in boba. This week was Berlin’s, a place near Hollywood. It was pretty mediocre boba, but it was a nice shop. Sometimes I feel bad about the amount of money I spend on desserts and boba, but hey. Life is short, eat dessert.
