July has been an amaaaaazing month. There’s been a lot going on, but I’m so excited and happy about all of it. I was driving home the other day and realized it’s been a long time since I’ve felt extremely sad or angry about something. How crazy is that? I remember in highschool and college just being in a constant emotional flux. Everything was unstable and stressful and overwhelming. Honestly, your teens feel like a constant identity crisis. Not that everything is always peachy now, but the average trends much higher and I’m thankful for that. My life’s just been in a really good place lately and I’m feeling incredibly lucky. Things get better kids, tough it out! Anywho, here’s July for me.
- I kicked off the month by winning my third amateur muay thai fight on July 1st! It was a decisive win against a much more experienced opponent. So while I’m not 100% happy with my performance, I’m proud of the outcome.
- I got a cat! Meet Ro, the cuddlebug extraordinaire. I’ve never met a cat this affectionate. We were originally looking for a full black or gray cat, but this little guy picked us, so we took him home and it’s been nonstop snuggles ever since.
- We just went to Vegas this past weekend, woo! Vegas isn’t normally my cup of tea, but I got to see some old college friends that I don’t see nearly enough. I miss them already.
In other smaller news..
- We bought tickets to Austin City Limits! Here we come Texas! (…in like three months though).
- I planted new pepper plants. Huzzah for a new garden!
- My friend gifted me a used Cintiq tablet so I can resume artsing pretty soon.
Things are starting to calm down a little and I’m looking forward to August being a month full of reading and continuing to furnish my new place. (Is it still new if I’ve been here for close to three months?)
Hope you’ve all been having a wonderful July!
When I was younger, I always loved the idea of having a tattoo, but in some ways I never thought I’d get one. I eventually did – pretty much the second I finished college and could afford one. That was around two years ago (yes, I’m an old geezer compared to many of you ha!). I just recently got my second one a couple of months ago. The commitment seemed intimidating, but honestly, once you’ve got one, it doesn’t really matter anymore. You get addicted to the process and end up wanting more and more.
My sister went with me to get my first one two years ago, so it only seemed fitting we go together for her first. So a couple of weeks ago, that’s what we did. She visited my new apartment on a Friday and stayed the night so we could load up on brunch the next morning. Nothing like pancakes to hold you through the pain. Then, we made the trip south to Laguna Tattoo.
I’d never been to Laguna. It’s an interesting city, not too different from Venice or Long Beach or any other beach city really. We spent most of the time in the shop, so we didn’t get to spend too much time exploring.
It was a good day though. It was exciting to be a part of the process with her. I would show you the finished ink, but it was a floral piece that curved along her hip. In other words, none of the pictures I took were really safe for work.
Now I’m itching to get my second one finished. Hopefully soon.
It’s that time of month again! Happy Belated Thanksgiving to all of you in the States! I spent mine eating nonstop for 72 hours. Winter is my favorite season by far. This month it really started to cool down and feel like winter here in Southern California. So I’m a happy camper. Anyways, here’s what’s new.
- My hair! I took a Friday off and got my hair done with my older sister. I’ve never dyed my hair before, but I love the natural ombre I got done. Looooving it.
- I started pen-pal-ing! I got my first letter from my penpal in Singapore yesterday and I’m so excited for more. Snail mail is not dead and there’s plenty of ways to get involved!
- Alan bought me Life is Strange on Black Friday and I’ve sunk 5 hours into it already. Full of teen angst, a drop of supernatural and a whole lot of music and mystery. It’s like an interactive teenage indie series.
- Alan and I had a very low-key two-year anniversary. Strange how it feels like longer and shorter than two years at the same time. Cheers to the next one!
- Designer Con! We got tickets from to the Pasadena Designer Con from a couple of our friends and it was an amazing experience. There were tons of artists and toy designers and it was pretty inspirational talking to them about their work. Alan and I both picked up a few prints each. Not bad for my first con!
Other than that, I’ve been trying to keep my weekends pretty quiet. I usually go out with a friend or two to coffee shops and spend an entire day just reading or studying. Good company knows how to enjoy the quiet. My favorite spot lately is The Classic Coffee downtown. Anyways, hope your Novembers have all been just as great! It’s already starting to feel like the holidays.
Hullo there! A little overdue, but here’s my October Bits n’ Pieces! It’s finally starting to feel like fall here in Southern California. We’ve even been getting a teensy bit of rainfall these past couple of days. Cue my happy rain dance! I’m a sucker for gloomy, rainy weather. Maybe I shouldn’t live in socal…
Anyways, as usual, here’s what’s new:
- Happy Halloween!
- I’m learning Korean! I’ve got a trip to Asia planned for either next year or the year after. That’s plenty of time to pick up basic conversational skills. Plus, I’ve got so much free time now that I’m working, why not learn a language?
- My latest food obsession? Hotpot! Or shabu shabu or any version of boiling hot soup and delicious melt-in-your-mouth meat. Might do a post on my favorite places soon, but we’ve also been making it quite often in the apartment! Anyone interested in a recipe for that?
- Dying to dye my hair. Ha ha, very punny I am. Really though, I’ve been having dreams about it. I’m finally heading to the salon this Friday to get it done!
- My first real projects as a working developer are live! You can check out what card you need in your life with the Visa Card Advisor or go off-roading in a new Honda Pioneer vehicle! I learned so much on these two projects and both of my teams were awesome possum.
Other than that, life’s honestly been feeling so settled lately. I’ve been getting antsy for things to change or something new to happen. It’s been an interesting period, but I’m working on being content with where I am and being grateful for the stability/security I have in life. Trying to enjoy the small quiet moments a little more, you know?
Hello my happy clams!
I’ve been away from this space for quite some time now. I mean I’ve been here and I’ve been reading all your wonderful posts, but I took some much needed space from writing my own. But I’m back! And as usual, here’s what’s new.
- I got a nasty viral respiratory thing a couple of weeks ago, but had to keep working through the fevers because of project deadlines. Work was killer.
- BUT. My project manager bought us all these tanks to celebrate what we managed to knock out together. Our team was mostly female, which doesn’t happen too often in tech. So very cool thing to have been a part of.
- I recently bought this book on copperplate calligraphy and it’s an amazing resource for a beginner. Also picked up a new set of Zebra Comic G and Nikko G nibs.
- Puppy-craze is at an all-time high. I spent this past weekend dog-sitting for a good friend of mine and fell in love with his pup. I want to rescue one, but current apartment is a no-go on dogs. If you’re looking, he found the adorable cuddlebug above at the Forte Animal Rescue. You can read his specific story here.
- This weekend I’m shipping the baby sister off to college, which is a such a weird feeling. In my head she’s eternally four years old in hot pink cheetah pjs playing with a hula doll. Sigh. Time.
And that’s what’s happening here. Oh, also, I turned 22. So woohoo for that! Anyway, it’s past midnight and this girl’s got laundry to finish and work tomorrow morning. More posts coming your way soon!
This week has been craziness. I’ve just been swamped with work, even my poor weekend. Insert quiet sobbing here. It has been ages since I’ve done a BnP post though and there’s much to catch up on. Here’s what’s new in the world of Jeannie.
- I may or may not have gotten a tattoo. Oh wait, I definitely did. It was such an awesome experience and I’ll be sharing it with you all soon!
- In case you hadn’t noticed, I accidentally became a book blog. This is first and foremost a lifestyle blog, but it turns out books are a pretty huge part of my life. Plus, I’m starting to discover wonderful book blogs out there that really just make me want to read more. It’s fabulous.
- Since every girl could use another hobby, I started learning calligraphy! Got super inspired after seeing this girl here.
- Lastly, my garden is blooming! The picture above was probably a month and half ago. That container is now bursting over with herbs. All the small pots have been replanted into bigger ones and I’ve brought up quite a few more new plants. It’s been amazing having fresh herbs and produce right upstairs. It’s really changed the way we’ve been eating lately.
Well that’s what’s new with me. What’s new with you?
Graduation is coming up in about a month and I can’t believe how fast college has flown by, as cliche as that is. Here’s the update for the past few weeks. Some exciting, some less so, but I’m curled up in bed as I write this so all is well.
- My mama is an amazing mother and an incredibly strong woman. Happy Mother’s Day Mama and to all the wonderful mothers out there.
- I binge watched the new Netflix documentary series Chef’s Table. It was a little dramatized, but food shows always get me.
- Racists pop up everywhere. Yesterday in particular felt like a tough day to be asian.
- Job interviews have been flowing in and it’s pretty encouraging to know you have options when it comes to your future.
- The future roommate and I found the perfect apartment! Sent in our applications, but keep your fingers crossed that we get it. Seriously, it’s perfect.
This little cafe is Document Coffee Bar over in K-Town, where the amigos and I spent a couple hours studying yesterday. It’s a cute shop with a clearly hipster vibe with a pretty good macchiato and some funky music. I like the feel of studying in cool shops like this. I’ll have to squeeze in more of that these last few weeks.
